Portage la Prairie RCMP have arrested a man accused of attacking three people during an attempted robbery on Tuesday evening.

Mounties were called to a business on Saskatchewan Avenue West in Portage at about 7:30 p.m.

RCMP were told a man entered the business and demanded cash from an employee before hitting him with a stick. The employee didn’t hand over any money.

As the man fled, he struck a 74-year-old customer with the stick and then threw a chunk of concrete at another customer, say Mounties. The employee and the 74-year-old woman suffered minor injuries. RCMP couldn’t find the third victim.

The suspect was found in a nearby parking lot and arrested. A 29-year-old man from Portage is charged with robbery with a weapon, three counts of assault with a weapon and one count of mischief under $5,000. He was held in custody.
