A 63-year-old man has been arrested and a female youth hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash police believe was the result of impaired driving.

It happened just before 5 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Waverley Street and Perimeter Highway South. The suspect driver failed to stop at the Waverley intersection while travelling eastbound on the Perimeter Highway, rear-ending another vehicle and causing a multi-vehicle collision, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday. Police said a youth female passenger in the vehicle struck by the suspect was transported to hospital in stable condition with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A suspect was taken into custody after being medically cleared by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. David Nelson Fournier of St. Paul, Minn., has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm. He was detained in custody.
