Suspects sought after man shot in West Broadway

Winnipeg Police Service homicide detectives are investigating after a man was fatally shot in West Broadway on Sunday.

Jayden Laporte, a 23-year-old member of Long Plain First Nation who lived in Portage la Prairie, had gone to the area of Balmoral and Spence streets to meet with a group of people on Sunday. One of them pulled out a gun and shot him, police say.

Laporte’s family members rushed him to the hospital and called police, who met them at the Health Sciences Centre. Officers are still working on identifying and locating the suspects.

Laporte later died in hospital. Detectives ask for anyone with information on the killing to call their office at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477.
