Police are seeking witnesses to a random assault near Broadway and Fort Street on Saturday.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, told police he was walking in the area at about 2:45 p.m. when two strangers confronted him while leaving the Upper Fort Garry heritage site onto Fort Street.

The two men assaulted him, with one using a rock to hit him, the Winnipeg Police Service said Wednesday. Paramedics took him to hospital in stable condition.

One of the suspects wore a green sweater and black pants, while the other wore a white shirt with no sleeves and white shorts.

Major crimes detectives asked anyone with information about the assault to contact them at 204-986-6219, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
