Manitoba is making the independent teacher commissioner a full-time position with an annual salary of nearly $175,000.

Details about Noni Classen’s contract are laid out in a newly released order in council appointment.

Classen, a former resource teacher who is a well-known leader in the child protection sector, will be tasked with investigating complaints about teacher misconduct after the May long weekend.

Throughout her five-year contract as a senior officer in the civil service, Classen’s base salary will be $174,927. Her appointment is slated to expire on May 17, 2031.

The province had originally established the commissioner as a part-time role. The inaugural appointee, Bobbi Taillefer, was paid $80,000 annually during her tenure.
