A teen walking in the middle of the road was hit by a vehicle in Selkirk on Wednesday night, RCMP said.

RCMP were sent to the site of the collision on Manitoba Avenue, just west of Highway 9A, at 9:30 p.m. Officers determined two young males were walking east when one of them was hit by an eastbound vehicle. One of the males was seen lying in the south ditch, police said in a news release Thursday.

The teen, a resident of the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews, was flown to hospital in critical condition by STARS air ambulance. The other pedestrian was not injured, RCMP said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old St. Andrews man, was not hurt.
