A man was seriously hurt in a machete attack outside a convenience store in the 1700 block of Portage Avenue on Thursday evening.

It happened at about 10:44 p.m. on July 3 outside the store. The victim, whose age hasn’t been released, didn’t know his attacker. A passerby used a belt as a makeshift tourniquet, and then police applied a tourniquet and additional first aid when they arrived. The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition with serious injuries.

The suspect ran away, police learned. The suspect was described as a male between 15 and 17 years old, 5′-6″ to 5′-10″, skinny with light skin and shaggy, dark hair. He was wearing a black Tupac T-shirt, torn black jeans and dark sandals with white or grey socks. He was carrying a grey backpack and is believed to have been with two other teens when the assault happened.
