Assiniboia Downs has cancelled its Tuesday evening race card due to poor air quality.

In a statement sent out Tuesday evening, the organization said it made the decision with the welfare of the horses and riders in mind.

Wildfire smoke from forest fires in the northern Prairies and Northwest Territories is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility.

Racing is slated for Wednesday night, however officials will monitor the air quality and make a decision prior to 7 p.m.
