Three boys lucky to survive ATV crash: RCMP

Three boys suffered serious injuries when the all-terrain vehicle they were riding collided with a vehicle in a northern Manitoba community last week.

RCMP said the children — one aged 11 and the others aged 13 — received swift care and help from officers and residents of Shamattawa First Nation after the crash.

The collision happened at about 8:30 p.m. Friday. The ATV was being driven by one of the 13-year-old boys, police said.

RCMP said officers provided treatment at the scene, and, with help from community residents, took the children to a nursing station.

The ATV riders were flown to Winnipeg for hospital treatment.

Two boys, ages nine and 10, who were passengers in the vehicle were taken to Shamattawa’s nursing station to be treated for minor injuries, RCMP said.

The vehicle’s driver, a 25-year-old man, and a 21-year-old female passenger were not hurt.

The collision is under investigation.
