Three men have been charged after a man was assaulted by would-be robbers armed with a gun and a baton in June.

The Winnipeg Police Service said Wednesday that a man was walking in the lane behind the 300 block of Kennedy Street at about 6:30 p.m. on June 9 when a man with a baton demanded his property.

Two more men, one armed with a .22-calibre rifle, confronted the man and assaulted him as he tried to walk away.

The three suspects fled without any items. The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man in the downtown area on June 21, a 30-year-old man in the William Whyte area on July 10, and another 30-year-old man in the downtown area on Sunday.

They face various charges. All three were detained in custody.
