A CN train derailment closed all lanes of Highway 16 northeast of Portage la Prairie for hours Monday.

The derailment, just north of the intersection with the Trans-Canada Highway, happened at about 4:15 a.m.

Six rail cars went off the tracks, but no dangerous goods were found in any of them, Manitoba RCMP spokesman Sgt. Paul Manaigre said.

No one was reported hurt. CN police are still investigating.

The provincial government said shortly after 3 p.m. that the highway had reopened.
