A provincial byelection for the Transcona constituency will be held March 18.

The seat was held by the late NDP MLA and cabinet minister Nello Altomare, who died Jan. 14.

Premier Wab Kinew was set to introduce the NDP candidate in the community at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The chief electoral officer will announce polling times and locations, and the dates and locations of advance polls, at a later date, a news release said.

There are currently 33 New Democrats, 21 Progressive Conservatives, one Liberal and one independent in the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, plus the one vacant seat.
