The city has suspended spraying for tree pest caterpillars for a week and will shift its focus to mosquito larviciding.

“We expect to resume tree pest caterpillar control by next weekend,” the City of Winnipeg said in a news release Friday.

Spraying for the caterpillars using Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies kurstaki, known as Btk, began this week.

Weather permitting, spraying on boulevards and city parks and cemeteries where tree pest caterpillars are plentiful was initially expected to continue daily over four weeks, with the exception of Fridays and Saturdays.
