A semi-truck driver was arrested after his vehicle slammed into the back of a car stopped at a traffic light on the Perimeter Highway.

RCMP said the truck smashed into a small car stopped at the lights in an eastbound lane on the north Perimeter at Wenzel Road at 3:55 p.m. Thursday. The 47-year-old driver of the car was flown to hospital in a STARS helicopter.

The man, a resident of the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead, was transported in critical condition. RCMP did not have an update on his condition Friday morning.

The other driver, a 25-year-old Winnipeg man, suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said. He was arrested for dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
