Two people are presumed dead after a pickup truck went through the ice on Cedar Lake.

Grand Rapids RCMP were called about the incident at about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The truck broke through the ice about 75 metres from shore, near the Manitoba Hydro boat launch, west of the Grand Rapids Generating Station.

Tracks were seen leading from the boat ramp onto the ice. The RCMP underwater recovery team was sent to the area Tuesday morning and found the truck Wednesday afternoon. The two occupants — the male driver and female passenger — were not inside, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

The search for the two victims continues.

Two men died after they fell through ice in Kinosao Sipi Cree Nation and Pimicikamak Cree Nation on the same weekend in late November.
