Two men were arrested for aggravated assault last month for allegedly amputating a woman’s finger.
Maxim Dale Garneau, 28, and Alexander Paul Doyle, 37, both of Winnipeg, were arrested following an investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service’s major crimes unit, the WPS said in a news release Saturday.
The unit started its investigation in November 2024. The assault occurred in December 2023 but was not previously reported.
The female victim, who is in her 20s, was in the company of two males at a residence in the 200 block of College Avenue. All parties were known to each other and are believed to be part of the criminal drug subculture.
The assault happened during a disagreement. The victim accessed medical treatment but a police report was not made at the time.
Garneau was arrested on Jan. 6 and Doyle was arrested on Jan. 31. Both were in custody on unrelated matters and remain in custody.
