Two additional suspects have been arrested in a random August attack that left a man fighting for his life.

City police previously said officers received several calls about a man who was stabbed on the 700 block of Maryland Street around 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 27.

The WPS provided more details in a news release Tuesday, saying investigators learned a group was hanging out in the Daniel McIntyre neighbourhood when a man went to join them. An altercation occurred and someone pointed a gun in the face of the man. Police said the man tried to fight back but was overpowered by the group and stabbed multiple times.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was also robbed. He was sent to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable.

Police said in the release a 23-year-old man was arrested on Sept. 5 on the 400 block of Agnes Street. Two days later, on Sept. 7, a 40-year-old man was arrested at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, where he was in custody on an unrelated matter. Both were charged with robbery and aggravated assault and remain in custody.

Police had previously arrested and charged two suspects in the attack, a man and woman, both 35, who were charged with aggravated assault and robbery.
