Two shoplifting suspects are charged with discharging bear spray at grocery store staff before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.
Winnipeg police said the robbery happened at a store in the 900 block of Henderson Highway at about 9 p.m. Saturday.
A store employee tried to stop a man and woman who stole merchandise and were about to leave, police said. The suspects deployed bear spray and left. Nobody was injured, police said.
The pair fled in a stolen vehicle, driving south on Henderson at a high speed.
Police, guided by the AIR1 helicopter, followed the vehicle and stopped it at Burrows Avenue and Inkster Boulevard. The stolen merchandise was recovered.
A 31-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman are facing charges, with the man facing additional charges for a weapon offence, driving while prohibited and failing to comply with a probation order.
