Two men have been charged after many thefts — most involving vehicles, licence plates or items taken from inside vehicles — between February and this month.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s property crime unit launched an incident into the thefts in March. In the first incident, on Feb. 16, a wallet was stolen from an SUV, and a credit card was used at a convenience store.
One incident involved theft of gas from an Osborne Street station. Another involved a truck being stolen in the Rural Municipality of Headingley.
In the last of more than a dozen incidents listed by the WPS in a news release Monday, a licence plate was stolen from a car on April 5.
On Friday, police arrested a 29-year-old man on the 3200 block of Portage Avenue in connection with the theft of a BMW. The vehicle was stolen from the 200 block of Cordova Street on March 25 and was found on the first 100 block of Balmoral Street on April 5.
Police said officers found a knife on the man and stolen identification documents, including business cheques, in a backpack.
A 36-year-old man was arrested by officers investigating an unrelated incident Sunday. They seized a knife and methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $300.
Both men were detained in custody.
