Two people from Chemawawin Cree Nation were killed while walking on a highway late Friday night.
The Pas RCMP were contacted about the collision on Highway 60, about 20 kilometres east of Highway 10, at 11:50 p.m.
A 29-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said in a news release Monday.
The police investigation determined a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old Chemawawin man was headed east when it stopped on the side of the highway. Two passengers got out and began walking eastbound, with the vehicle following them.
Another vehicle, driven by a 64-year-old man from The Pas, was headed west. The driver failed to see the pair walking on the highway and struck the two, the release said.
Neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision, RCMP said.
