Two teens have been charged in the killing of a man Monday evening.

Winnipeg police were sent to the 300 block of Qu’Appelle Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. after a man was assaulted. Officers found the victim suffering from injuries to his “upper body” and gave him emergency care, including applying two chest seals.

Steven Gordon Loonfoot, 45, was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries. He was a member of Garden Hill First Nation but had lived in Winnipeg for several years, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Wednesday.

A 16-year-old male was arrested in the area a short time after the incident, and a second 16-year-old male was arrested on the first 100 block of Victory Place later that day. They have both been charged with second-degree murder.

Police spokesperson Const. Pat Saydak declined to comment on the incident, citing the ongoing investigation.
