Members of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association have voted in favour of strike action.

The association represents 1,300 professors, instructors, and librarians.

In a release Friday evening, UMFA said it had received a strike mandate, but didn’t release details of the vote.

Bargaining is scheduled to resume Monday.

The union is seeking salary increases, an improvement to hiring practices and access to child care.

“To keep top researchers and teachers at the University of Manitoba, we need to be able to offer competitive salaries. An investment in faculty is an investment in student learning conditions, and in research and innovation in Manitoba,” president Erik Thomson said in a release.
