Vacant Powers Street house already damaged by fire burns again

A vacant house on Powers Street that had already been damaged in a blaze last week caught on fire again early Tuesday morning.

Winnipeg police driving through the area spotted the fire in the two-storey home on the 200 block of Powers Street in the William Whyte neighbourhood at about 4:49 a.m. and alerted the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames billowing from the house, the fire department said. Crews launched a ladder truck to spray water onto the building, then got inside and controlled the fire by about 6:45 a.m.

No one was hurt. The house had previously burned last Friday morning, displacing its residents, and is now considered a complete loss.
