Police say a would-be robber suffered minor injuries when one of his victims disarmed him.
Officers patrolling the area of Maryland Street and Westminster Avenue saw people fighting, with one apparently holding a gun, at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The man dropped the item, an airsoft pistol, when police told him to, and officers arrested a 20-year-old man.
Police learned a mugger had approached a 39-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman on the sidewalk, pointed the pistol at the strangers and demanded property.
The male victim refused, and the two men began fighting. The victim managed to grab the gun, and the mugger suffered a “minor upper-body injury,” the Winnipeg Police Service said Tuesday. He refused medical treatment.
A Winnipeg man is charged with three firearms offences and failing to comply with a sentence. He was released on an undertaking.
