City crews have stopped water flowing from a water main break near the North End Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Crews working on the headworks buildings near the plant accidentally damaged a water main, the city said in a news release Friday afternoon.

Main Street remains closed between Seaforth Avenue and Chief Peguis Trail due to  extensive flooding caused by the break. Crews are on-site removing water and ice and applying traction control to the roadway surface.

Customers in the area have water service however, the city says they may continue to experience discoloured water.

The city says it will reopen the roads as quickly as possible and will provide further updates via social media.
