Main Street Project fire under investigation 

The Winnipeg Police Service’s major crimes unit is investigating a fire that broke out inside Main Street Project’s detention area early Saturday.

Police were contacted about the fire at 75 Martha St. at about 2:30 a.m., WPS spokesperson Const. Dani McKinnon said in an email.

Main Street Project runs an intoxicated person’s detention area, commonly known as a drunk tank, at the location. It is the only one of its kind in Winnipeg.

Officers helped with evacuating people in the facility.

Police wouldn’t say whether they have identified a suspect.
