West St. Paul school expected to open as early as 2027

West St. Paul residents are one step closer to getting a new elementary school.
School and government officials celebrated the groundbreaking of a kindergarten-to-Grade 8 building in the Meadowlands development on Tuesday.
The roughly 82,000-square-foot facility is expected to open as early as September 2027.
Its initial capacity will be 675 students, although the province said it will be able to accommodate up to 800 children if enrolment surges.
The school’s integrated child-care facility will have up to 104 spaces for children aged zero to six and 30 school-aged spots for before- and after-school care.
The building’s special features include human ecology and applied technology labs, as well as a geothermal system.
The project is part of a bundle of four schools that are being built using a standard design.
Construction is expected to start on the three other projects, including two in Winnipeg — in Devonshire Park and Prairie Pointe — and one in southwest Brandon, in the coming months.
