Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s Gwen Hoebig to retire after 37 years as Concertmaster

After a remarkable 37 years as WSO Concertmaster  Gwen Hoebig has announced the 2024/2025 season will be her last one.

The acclaimed violinist Hoebig was chosen by the audition committee to lead the orchestra in 1987 at the age of 27 years.

She will take a one-year sabbatical when the season ends in May 2025 and plans to rejoin the orchestra in a new capacity.

To celebrate her illustrious career, Hoebig will perform a special concert on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11 2025, honoring her tenure as Concertmaster and her contributions to the WSO.
