A teen has been arrested after another girl was beaten and robbed of her backpack in a parking lot while other youths recorded the attack.
Winnipeg police were sent to the lot at Madison Street and Ness Avenue at about 5:15 p.m. on April 17. Witnesses reported a teen was being punched and kicked while others cheered on the assault.
Officers found a 13-year-old girl unconscious. The group involved stole the victim’s backpack and fled the scene, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Thursday.
The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition with serious head and facial injuries. She was later upgraded to stable condition, police said.
The WPS major crimes unit learned through a month-long investigation that the victim and suspect were known to each other and had been in the area together when the unprovoked beating began.
Officers identified a suspect and arrested her at a home on the 700 block of Machray Avenue on Tuesday.
A 15-year-old girl is charged with aggravated assault and robbery. She remains in custody.
