A 34-year-old man accused of repeatedly stabbing a 19-year-old woman in a Portage la Prairie home has been arrested.

RCMP officers were called to the residence on 1st Street Northwest in Portage la Prairie at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, where they learned a man had chased a woman into the home, then assaulted and stabbed her several times.

The woman was rushed to hospital. Officers found the suspect walking down the street shortly after they arrived at the scene. Mounties arrested the suspect and found a knife in his backpack. The suspect knew the victim, police said.

The suspect threatened to hurt several officers after he was arrested.
