Woman charged in nearly 20 store thefts

A woman has been charged in a string of shoplifting incidents across the city between January and this month.

Police arrested a 31-year-old woman at her home Thursday. She has been charged with 19 counts of theft under $5,000.

The value of the items stolen is nearly $10,000, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Monday.

The incidents happened in retail stores on Kenaston Boulevard, Portage Avenue, Sterling Lyon Parkway, McPhillips Street, Concordia Avenue, St. Mary’s Road and McGillivray Boulevard.

In the first incident, on Jan. 23, about $50 in merchandise was stolen from the 1500 block of Kenaston. In the last, on Sept. 11, about $432 worth of merchandise was stolen from the 1400 block of Portage.

The largest theft, on the 1200 block of St. Mary’s on June 23, involved $1,200 in merchandise.
