A Dauphin woman has been charged with stealing a First Nations’ septic truck and forcing other vehicles off a highway.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP were contacted about the theft from Ebb and Flow First Nation at about 9:20 a.m. Monday.

An RCMP officer en route saw the truck go through a stop sign at the intersection of Provincial Road 278 and Highway 68. The truck began heading westbound on Highway 68, towards Ste. Rose du Lac.

Mounties said Tuesday the woman behind the wheel would not stop, was driving erratically and veered into the oncoming lane of traffic.

Several motorists were forced off the road by the truck. No collisions happened, and nobody was injured, RCMP said.

Officers were able to stop the truck by using a spike belt. The truck ended up in a ditch, and a woman fled on foot before she was arrested shortly after.

The 29-year-old woman is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police and dangerous driving. She was released from custody.

The septic truck was recovered by Ebb and Flow officials.
