Woman robbed, assaulted by youth downtown

A 62-year-old woman was assaulted by a group of teens who tried to steal her cellphone Sunday evening.

The assault was unprovoked and happened at about 7:45 p.m. Nov. 10 in the 500 block of Main Street while the victim was sitting on a bench near city hall. The victim was approached by four female youth who tried to steal her phone, and when unsuccessful, they threw her to the ground and assaulted her before fleeing with some of her property. The woman had minor injuries but didn’t need medical attention, WPS stated in a news release.

Police arrested four youth suspects nearby. A 17-year-old, two 16-year-olds and a 14-year-old were charged with robbery. The 17-year-old was detained in custody on a warrant for failure to attend court. She also faces two charges of breaching an undertaking.
