Woman sexually assaulted, hit with hatchet at homeless encampment

A man was arrested after his girlfriend told police he sexually assaulted her and hit her with a hatchet at a homeless encampment in Thompson.

RCMP were called at about 7:40 a.m. Sunday and spoke with the visibly injured victim.

The 42-year-old woman said the attack happened in a tent and that she was struck multiple times with the hatchet.

A 31-year-old Thompson man is facing charges, RCMP said in a news release Thursday.
