A five-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle and killed while tobogganing in Winkler on Sunday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m. Winkler police responded to a call about a child that had been hit by a vehicle in a residential bay.

Investigation revealed the child had been sliding down a snow hill and onto the street with a toboggan when he was ran over by a car leaving a home in the bay, Winkler police said in a press release.

The driver didn’t notice the boy tobogganing when he was driving and struck him, the release said.

The child was transported to Boundary Trails Health Centre where he died from his injuries.

No charges have been laid at this time.
