U.K. British Invasion tour

IT happens May 24-June 1, 2009, with John Einarson, a widely respected rock music historian and writer.

In 1964, the British Invasion brought the electrifying sounds of The Beatles, Rolling Stones and all their Merseybeat contemporaries to our shores. Now we’re going to invade their shores with an exciting tour package designed to delight anyone who ever dreamed of taking that ferry cross the Mersey.

Hitting all the British Invasion historical hotspots, points of interest, and events in both London and the Beatles’ hometown of Liverpool, the U.K. British Invasion Rock ‘n’ Roll Tour includes the Beatles In My Life and Soho Rock Walk walking tours, dinner at Rolling Stone Bill Wyman’s Sticky Fingers restaurant, Liverpool’s Magical Mystery Tour and Beatles Story Museum, a visit to the legendary Cavern and Casbah Clubs, the Rockin’ Richmond Rolling Stones Coach Tour, and more.

The package consists of eight nights’ accommodation, luxury coach travel, six lunches and seven set meals (including dinner with renowned Merseybeat historian and author Spencer Leigh), tour fees and guides. Get ready for plenty of Hard Day’s Nights with the U.K. British Invasion tour.

Join John Einarson and Carlson Wagonlit Travel for all the details at McNally Robinson, Grant Park, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.

Asessippi awaits

THE recent cold snap has played havoc with ski operations at the Asessippi Ski Area & Resort near Russell, but the ski area is taking steps to take advantage of the warm weather forecast for this weekend and early next week.

The Weather Network forecast for today was -5 C, with temperatures expected to rise to zero tomorrow. Highs of 1 C and -3 C are forecast for Monday and Tuesday.

"Normally, we are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays in January, but we’ve decided to open next week so skiers, boarders and tubers can take advantage of this heat wave," said Roz Pulo, director of marketing for the resort.

The Russell Inn and Jolly Lodger are also offering last-minute deals for ski hill enthusiasts, with up to $30 off rooms.

Season-ticket holders at Asessippi can also receive 15 per cent off rooms at the Russell Inn or Jolly Lodger through Jan. 29.
