REGINA – The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is lifting a fire ban across the province after recent rainfall and cooler temperatures helped crews battle wildfires in the northern region.

But the agency says some parks in the north may still retain a local ban as some communities continue to experience high fire risk.

Steve Roberts, the vice president of operations, says municipalities in the region are to continue to monitor and restrict fire activities.

Roberts says some rain and humidity over the last day allowed crews to better suppress the fires, noting they haven’t significantly grown.

The agency reports it’s battling 24 wildfires in northern Saskatchewan, including five that aren’t contained and three requiring crews to protect property.

Many evacuees are still unable to return home, though 20 people are heading back to Île-à-la-Crosse.
