DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Luke Bailey threw five touchdown passes and Drake pulled way in the second half to hand St. Thomas (Minnesota) its first Pioneer Football League loss this season while the Bulldogs won their third in a row, 52-21 on Saturday.
Bailey was 24 of 32 for 411 of Drake’s 449 yards passing. Bailey’s five TD throws are the most since Grant Kraemer thew for five against Missouri S&T in 2018. Two of his touchdowns went to Mitchell January, who had nine receptions for 169 yards.
The Bulldogs (3-3, 3-0) rolled up 30 first downs and 553 yards offense while holding the Tommies to 183, including just 53 on the ground. The Tommies (4-3, 3-1) gave up three fumbles and an interception.
Drake scored on six consecutive possessions, including five touchdowns, spanning the second to fourth quarters. Bailey’s 2-yard score to Stewart and 12- and 19-yard TD passes to Parker Olthoff in the third quarter broke the game open after Drake led just 24-21 at halftime. Those were Olthoff’s only two receptions. Twelve Bulldogs caught passes.
St. Thomas’ only lead came at 13-7 early in the second quarter following a 4-yard rushing TD by Gabriel Abel.
