MILWAUKEE (AP) — Liza Karlen had 25 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, Mackenzie Hare added 15 points and No. 19 Marquette beat No. 20 Creighton 76-70 on Wednesday night in the Big East opener for both teams.
The teams were tied at 64 with 4:28 left in the fourth quarter before Marquette pulled away by scoring on three straight possessions, two by Karlen. Creighton’s only field goal in the final four minutes came with 38 seconds remaining.
Rose Nkumu and Jordan King each had 11 points for Marquette (10-0).
Emma Ronsiek led Creighton (7-2) with 29 points. Molly Mogensen scored a season-high 21 points, and Lauren Jensen added 13. Morgan Maly, averaging 16.5 points, was held to four points on 2-of-13 shooting.
NO. 5 TEXAS 88, ARIZONA 75
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Rori Harmon had 19 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, and Taylor Jones added 16 points as Texas beat Arizona to remain unbeaten.
The Longhorns (11-0) extended their best start in eight years by shooting 51.6% in the game and converting 21 Arizona turnovers into 25 points.
Texas is off its its finest start since opening the 2015-16 season with 16 consecutive wins.
Kailyn Gilbert led Arizona (7-3) with 26 points.
NO. 18 LOUISVILLE 74, MOREHEAD STATE 48
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Nyla Harris and Olivia Cochran each scored 16 points and Louisville beat Morehead State to extend its winning streak to six games.
Cochran also had 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Harris added nine rebounds as the Cardinals had a 47-39 rebounding edge.
Kiki Jefferson added 12 points for Louisville (10-1).
Veronica Charles scored 15 points for Morehead State (4-6). Melissa Secchiaroli, averaging 10.2 points per game, was held to five points.
