EDMONTON – Quebec City’s Jade Masson-Wong needed just one minute to knock out American Gabrielle Roman on Saturday night in the main event of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship’s first-ever show in Canada.

The 31-year-old Masson-Wong knocked Roman down twice before referee Dan Miragliotta stepped in to end the flyweight bout at the River Cree Resort and Casino in suburban Enoch.

Masson-Wong (3-1-0) came into the fight ranked No. 1 among BKFC women’s flyweight contenders. New Jersey’s Roman (1-0-1), her opponent, was ranked fifth.

Saturday’s card was a BKFC Prospects Night show, meaning most of the participants were just starting their bare-knuckle journey.

Fights are contested in a ring with five two-minute rounds. Fighters are permitted to wrap and tape the wrist, thumb and mid-hand, but no gauze or tape can be within 2.5 centimetres of the knuckles. Punches are the only strike allowed.
