WINNIPEG – Police in Winnipeg have charged two teenagers with weapons offences after they allegedly attacked a man with a machete on Friday night.

Police say officers responded to a report of an assault in the city’s northeast and found a man in his 20s with significant upper body injuries.

They say officers provided emergency medical care to the man and applied two tourniquets before he was taken to hospital, where he’s now in stable condition.

Police say a K9 unit helped lead officers to three males nearby, and two of them were arrested after a foot pursuit.

They say it’s believed the victim was leaving an apartment building when he was chased and attacked with a machete and bear spray.

A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, and the older teen is also facing five charges for failing to comply with a previous court order.
