MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Mississauga is the latest city that says it will stop flying the American flag amid a trade war between Canada and the U.S., along with President Donald Trump’s annexation threats.

Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish said in a post to X on Saturday that her city has begun removing all American flags at locations along Lake Ontario and those hung at sports arenas “at the request of many.”

She says oversized Canadian flags have been ordered and will be installed on all the poles at city hall.

Parrish says many boaters come into the city’s Port Credit during the summer and U.S. flags had been displayed there “to welcome our former good neighbours.”

She says it is “sad one man and his collection of enablers are disrupting the markets, distressing business owners on both sides of the border and wreaking havoc on such a mutually beneficial relationship.”

The mayor of Barrie ordered U.S. flags be removed from municipal buildings including arenas earlier this month, while West Lincoln Township council voted to do the same in that region in February.
