MERRITT, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA – RCMP in Merritt, B.C., say a pedestrian was hit and killed on the Coquihalla Highway Thursday morning by a vehicle that was unable to avoid the collision. 

Police say the male was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

The say the driver of the vehicle remained at the crash site, and no criminality is suspected.

The highway was closed for several hours between Hope and Merritt while police investigated.

It reopened for northbound traffic before the noon hour.

Police say they and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the death.
