Manitoba’s credit unions have stepped up as presenting sponsors of the 2025 STARS Lottery Manitoba as part of a $300,000 donation to the helicopter air ambulance service, it was announced Monday.
As well as the lottery, the gift will support STARS critical care operations for the next three years.
“STARS has had a profound impact on saving lives across the province, particularly in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities,” Steinbach Credit Union CEO Curtis Wennberg said in a news release. “SCU is proud to participate alongside our Manitoba credit union partners in donating to STARS, supporting the passion and commitment of those who ensure access to critical care services for Manitobans across the province.”
“As credit unions, we believe that access to banking services should not be limited by where you live, work, play, or travel,” said Tim Klassen, president and CEO of Sunrise Credit Union. “The same principle applies to STARS’ life-saving missions.”
STARS has operated in Manitoba since 2009, with its Winnipeg base in 2012. From April 1, 2024, to March 31, STARS carried out 1,234 missions across the province.
Manitoba is home to 15 credit unions, with 176 branches in 114 communities across the province. Together, they serve more than 740,000 members, with $46 billion in assets.
