SASKATOON – Police in Saskatoon are reporting a rather unusual case that saw them catch their suspect — but lose their car.

Police say officers were patrolling an area west of downtown Sunday morning when a drunk man who was carrying open liquor traipsed onto the road in front of them.

Police arrested the man after a brief chase on foot — only to discover the police vehicle had been stolen while they were gone.

They say the vehicle was found about 15 minutes later in a back alley a couple of blocks north of where it was parked.

Investigators say the matter is still being looked into.

Police did not say if the drunk man is facing charges.
