AJAX – Durham police say one person is dead after a fire in Ajax, Ont.

Police say officers responded to a call Friday at a home in the area of Taunton Road East and Salem Road North where a man was allegedly armed and threatening members of his family.

When officers arrived, there was an active fire at the home.

Police say officers and Pickering Fire safely removed several people from the residence and evacuated neighbouring homes. 

They say one person was found dead, while no other injuries were reported. 

The Ontario Fire Marshal is on-scene investigating and police ask anyone with information to come forward.
