TORONTO – Eleven people were arrested and charged during a pro-Palestinian protest in downtown Toronto over the weekend.

Toronto police say a large number of people took part in the protest Saturday afternoon in the area of Spadina Avenue and Front Street West.

They say some demonstrators “repeatedly” ignored police directions, refused to clear intersections and allegedly assaulted officers.

Police say one officer sustained minor injuries, and the windshield of a police vehicle was cracked after it was struck by an object.

The Toronto chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement accused police of “brutal violence” against the protesters in a statement on social media.

Police say they arrested 11 people and charged them with several offences, including obstructing a peace officer and assaulting a peace officer.

They say one of them was arrested on an outstanding warrant related to a different demonstration earlier this year.
