VANCOUVER – Vancouver police say they’ve arrested three men and seized numerous weapons along with thousands of dollars’ worth of drugs and stolen merchandise from what they describe as a Downtown Eastside crime group.

Police say they began targeting the criminal group in August and learned it was allegedly operating out of the West Pub on Carrall Street, while using several suites inside the West Hotel to traffic drugs, weapons and stolen property.

Sgt. Steve Addison says in a statement that although the hotel is meant for low-income community members, the police investigation found rooms were being rented by organized criminals who don’t live in the neighbourhood.

Three men in their 50s were arrested in late September, though charges have not yet been laid.

Police say they served search warrants in several locations and found $35,000 in cash, 2.5 kilograms of drugs, including fentanyl, along with about $30,000 in stolen merchandise, knives, swords, a Taser, guns, ammunition and body armour.

Police have been targeting criminal activity in the Downtown Eastside, and while Addison says violence had dropped in the area, there are still concerns.
