INNICHEN – Canada’s Reece Howden earned his second gold medal of the weekend with another win on Sunday in World Cup men’s ski cross action.

Germany’s Florian Wilmsmann grabbed silver and France’s Evan Klufts took bronze. Switzerland’s Alex Fiva was last in the four-man final.

Howden, from Cultus Lake, B.C., defeated Fiva for gold in Saturday’s World Cup final that saw Switzerland’s Tobias Baur finish third.

“It’s special to have a weekend like this in a place like Innichen,” said Howden. “It’s a tough track and everyone turned it up and layed it down today. I was able to stay focused on my skiing and my line, and to carry speed even with the other guys breathing down my neck.”

“Today was hard for sure, it was a battle and the legs are a little tired. This is a great way to start the Christmas break and looking forward to getting home and hoping for some powder skiing over the holidays.”

Howden also won gold on Tuesday in Arosa, Switzerland, to become the all-time leader in men’s ski cross World Cup wins, moving ahead of Jean-Frederic Chapuis of France.

For Howden’s career, it’s his 21st win and 33rd podium finish on the World Cup circuit.
