TORONTO – Toronto police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting near a university campus on Tuesday afternoon as officers continue to investigate the incident.
Police say they responded to a report of unknown trouble near Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road just after 3:30 p.m.
They say officers found a male victim with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, and he was later identified as Shivank Avasthi, 20, of Toronto.
They say the suspect or suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.
The University of Toronto Scarborough campus briefly issued a shelter in place order, but it has since been lifted.
Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators.
